The Truth about True Detective

 By: Molly Fox

True Detective is a crime show that aired on Sunday nights at 9pm HBO. There are currently 2 seasons out. I was slightly obsessed with Season 1.

Season 2…different story.

Season 1 stared Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Matty McC? Count me in.

The first and second season had two different casts with two different crimes/storyline.

I can tell you right now I had no idea what in the hell was going on in Season 2 until the last freaking episode. The cast was crazy strong, with it staring Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins) and Colin Farrell. How could this go wrong?

Oh but it did.

Farrell, Kitsch, and McAdams all played cops. Vaughn played a gangster doing some dirty work with city mayor, who was killed in the first episode becoming the story line of the whole show. Farrell played somewhat of a dirty cop but you had to love to love him. Eventually, McAdams and Farrell spark up a steamy relationship in the last few episodes.

Personally, I think Vaughn needs to stick to comedy.

I honestly could not tell you their names on the show, I refer to them by their real names.

I expected a lot more out of the show considering season 1 nailed it. Do not get me wrong, the show was good and worth watching, but it was so confusing. I would read every article I could find about the show to understand what was happening. Who is screwing who over?! Why did he shoot him?! Is he dead?! He cannot be dead. Rewind that, what did he say?!  Eventually I got it, with the help of a BuzzFeed article.

My mom and I watched it together every night Sunday night and would be sending each other articles by Monday morning. My mom semi gave up on the show half way through the show because she hated the way Farrell mumbled and you couldn’t understand him. He is originally from Ireland and has a brogue, he could be speaking gibberish and I would not care.

I did love the ending though, it was sad, but it did really bring the whole show together. I would not call it a happy ending, but a pleasant surprise would suffice. I will not tell you the ending, you may just have to figure that one out yourself.
