My Life Told By Adam Sandler

Being a recent college grad, I have experienced some recent college grad-y things. Also people asking me a million questions on what I plan on doing with myself for the rest of my life. These questions become overwhelming at times (all the time) and I can only think of reactions by Adam Sandler to answer them.

When my mom asks me when I plan on losing my freshman 15

When bossman tells me I can leave work early on Friday

When that cute boy just doesn't seem to want to text me back.

When I try and be fancy and mature at the bar and order one of those IPA beers that comes out to be $8.50….

When someone asks how my  new job search is going

When someone at a family party asks if I have a boyfriend

Every Monday morning waking up for work feels like

When I see the exact amount of my student loans.

But seriously, I am a grown up and plan on doing big things.

Fall Sangria

What you will need:
1 Bottle of Red Wine ( any kind will work)
1 Carton of orange Juice
2 cans of sprite
3 apples
3 oranges

There is not much to making this quick and easy Fall sangria suitable for any function, I think. Its perfect for a girls night in snuggled up by the fire watching Hocus Pocus.

Could cause:
Slurring of words
Crying about your emotions
Texting your ex
Laughing at absolutely nothing
New friendships

The instructions are quite simple; take a big bowl and pour the whole bottle of red wine in it. Then add, 2 cans of sprite. Then take 4 cups of your OJ and pour that in there too. Then cut up your apples and oranges and throw them in there. (I do not know if these actually causes that much flavor but it looks really cool with the fruit on top.) Enjoy!

30 for 30

If you are like me and 75% of America you have seen at least one episode of ESPN’s 30 for 30. It’s a show that does a sports documentaries sometimes on a team, players, or coach. Each show pretty much has the same baseline talking about the Where, When and How. Some of my favorite one’s are “The U,” “Alabama vs. Auburn,” “Reggie Miller,” “The Big East,” “The Best There Never Was,” “Bad Boys,” and “Of Miracles and Men.”

Anyone’s life could be transformed into a 30 for 30. Most of use average America NARP’s would not get a chance to be the subject line for this show. I am just waiting for Meryl Streep to appear in one of theses.

Would Kid Rock narrate my film? I hope not.

In 30 for 30’s they talk about the good and the bad. They don’t leave out much.

Alabama vs. Auburn

Roll Damn Tide, War Damn Eagle. Just watching this you understand the South’s craziness for football. They will go as far as to poison a tree.

Reggie Miller

A classic one. This is the story of Reggie Miller and how he was an exceptional basketball player for the Indiana Pacers. Just ask his sister, who was also a great basketball player.

Bad Boys

In the 30 for 30 episode of “Bad Boys” about the Detroit Pistons and how they were considered a pretty dirty team in the league at the time, they talk about how Isaiah Thomas’s comment on Boston Celtic’s Larry Bird saying “If Larry Bird were black he could be just another average player.” Shots fired.
On the 30 for 30 Thomas says he was joking and asks why ESPN was even bringing it up. Awkward. There are always controversial issues brought up on these episodes which makes it interesting.

Of Miracles and Men

Another 30 for 30 “Of Miracles and Men” is told from the Russian’s point of view in the 1980 Olympic hockey game against the United States, where the US won. It was painful to watch. They all looked so mad, thats like 35 years of being pissed.

The U

This one is about the University of Miami football team who does some misbehaving on and off the field in the early 90’s. This was a prevalent time during which “Miami Vice” rose to stardom and the drug trafficking trade was taking a hit.

The Best That Never Was

Marcus Dupree was a 20 something running back that had a book written about him before he actually did anything. He ran into all sorts of troubles and set backs in his career that would make his dreams, only be dreams.

The Big East

This 30 for 30 shows how the Big East conference came to be and how the coaches and players created a huge athletic business association.

My First Night At College

By: Molly Fox

A jam packed car full of sheets, a comforter, clothes, a refrigerator, a printer, decorations I did not need, and one very, very scared 18 year old.

It was pouring rain.

The rain pounded down on the windshield as me and my parents drove down 476. My sisters trailing behind us with another car full of stuff I did not need nor had room for. I was terrified. As we pulled off the exit my stomach tighten for I was getting ready to spend the next 4 years at this very unfamiliar place.

We pulled up to public safety to retrieve the key to my dorm. I sat in an unconditioned room for 30 minutes while the lady at the desk rummaged through a box full of small envelopes trying to find the key to match me.

“Fox?” she said.

“Yup” I replied

“Maggie?” she said

“No, Molly” I replied

“Oh, here you are” she said handing me the envelope

Gee thanks I thought.

I moved in a week before everyone else because I played volleyball and had preseason with all the other fall athletes. Moving in one week earlier meant no room mate for one whole week.
I was so nervous living by myself in a dorm. I would have no one to really talk to or hang out with. I did not know anyone else, not even anyone on my team. I just realized I did not know any of my team mates besides my coach.

I jiggled the door knob trying to get the key to work to open the door to my room. My whole family had helped me move tons of things into my room to make it like home. There was no air conditioning which made it nothing like home. There was one small window. I was growing more and more nervous because I had to leave in 2 hours to have a fall athletes meeting in another building. Great. My mom and I made my bed as I felt the tears coming.

“It’s just the fear of the unknown” my mom said.

My dad and sisters had left go to the Phillies game. (They didn’t actually tell me they were going to the Phillies game till months later because they did not want to make me feel bad or jealous about them going to a game without me.)

There were two nice girls who lived next to me who played field hockey. They walked by my room and peered in to ask me if I wanted to walk over to the athletes meeting with them.

The first thing I thought was: no, I do not want to walk over with you I want to go home and lay in my own bed in my own house with my family.

But what came out of my mouth was: “Sure, that would be great.”

My mom and I finished up the last few things of putting together my dorm as she looked around the room nervously. This was it, time to say goodbye. I hugged her and cried for I do not even know how long.

“Everything will be great, I love you” she said

“I love you, mom so much” I replied

I watched her walk down my hallway and out the door. I went back in my room and cried so hard I almost threw up.

I walked out in the hallway as it was time to leave for the athletes meeting. The nice girl next to me asked if I was okay. I’m fine, I told her.

We walked over to the building up the hill next to the cafeteria, it was so humid and hot. I walked into the auditorium when one of the senior volleyball player came up and grabbed me and walked me to where the other volleyball players were sitting. I did not even know she knew who I was. My coach was there and he greeted me and told me how happy he was to have me here. Yeah, I’m thrilled I told him even though that was the furthest thing from the truth.

I settled in a seat next to another freshman volleyball player as we sat through an hour long meeting listening to our athletic director talk about how the NCAA has a zero tolerance for steroids. No shit.

After the meeting the captain of the volleyball team stood up and said we needed to be at the gym by 5:30am and suited up and ready by 6:00am.

“Are you f*cking kidding me” I thought

I do not think I have been up before at 5:30 for anything in my life.
That was all about to change.

I headed back to my dorm for I was so exhausted from the day. I turned on my TV and put on the Modern Family complete season 1 DVD.

It automatically made me think of my family and me watching it so I quickly shut it off. I really needed a shower, I was sweating in the dorm that had no AC and it just happen to be 97 degrees that day. I go to the shower and it looks like prison showers. I hop in and try and turn it on and nothing comes out. Okay, that one doesn’t work.

I go in the next one and turn it on as hot water hits my back. I am sweating in the shower. I rinse off as best I can and head back to my room. Sweat on my forehead.

I set my alarm for 5:00am, and called home. I had to hang up at first when I hear the ring because I start to cry harder than I thought. I try again and my dad answers.

“Hey Mol” he says

He asks how the meeting went, I told him it was fine and I need to be up at 5am. I told him I loved him and he put my mom on the phone who asked the same series of questions. I told my mom I was already homesick and she said that was normal.

“But like I really miss home, Mom”

“I know it’s going to be okay, first night is always tough, try and get to sleep you have to up early, and I love you”

“I love you too”

There was huge thunderstorm that rolled in, with horrible thunder and lighting. Just perfect, I thought. I had to shut the window at that point which made my room even hotter. I had a small desk light on because I hated sleeping in pitch black, that started to flicker. The field hockey girls next to me must not have needed to be up at 5am because I could hear their whole conversation through the paper thin walls.  I laid on top of my bed and shut my eyes and said a prayer. The next thing I knew my alarm was going off and it was 5am. I threw on all my volleyball stuff grabbed my bag and was out the door.

The security officer sitting at the front desk of my dorm told me to kick some ass.

“Thanks, you too” I replied

It was so early I didn’t even care if that made no sense.

It was nonstop volleyball from 6am to 12pm and then again at 5pm that night. It was like that for the whole week.

Fast-forward 4 years later and here I am, just graduated college. I could not think of a better experience in my life than college. I had the best time of my life and I am so happy for all the experiences I had and all the people I met. I have met some friends I know I will have for life time.

Every time a new group of freshmen came on the team I always told them its okay to be home sick and if they needed anything to call me, I know first nights can be a little rough.

I am also so thankful for my Dad who told me to suck it up when I called home crying from being so sore from volleyball workouts wanting to come home. If you would have picked me up and took me home, I would not be where I am now.

Why Ronda Rousey Should Be Your Role Model

By: Molly Fox

I recently finished the book “My Fight is Your Fight” by Ronda Rousey. Rousey just claimed the title of the UFC world champion. She is an awesome fighter, and if you have seen any of fights you would agree. Her book takes you through her whole life and how she literally when from rags to riches.

Nothing was ever handed to her
She had to work for very little thing in her life. She traveled the world for competitions by herself with literally no money. No one was really ever there to tell her she did a good job or to wrap her hands before a fight. She did it all on her own.

She overcame life’s obstacles
Her life was not always glamorous. Her father committed suicide when she was at the tender age of 7. She had a boyfriend who stole her car to go buy drugs. She rose above all that and used that to motivate to only become better. She became a fighter from the moment she was born. She was deprived of oxygen when her mom gave birth to her. She had trouble speaking and didn’t put together a full sentence until she was 6 years old. She fought to speak better despite what doctors said.

Her mentality
Losing is not an option. Her mentality before every fight is she going to beat that girl in under a minute. Nothing is going to stop her, she wants to put her opponent in a hospital. She expects nothing less of herself than to win every fight. No matter who is standing on the other corner of the cage, she is going to fight them and win.

Her Family
In her book, she talks a lot about her family. One part of the book I will never forget is after a judo fight she went to her mom and told her she had sprained her ankle, her mom then made her run laps after she told her that to prove that she can fight no matter what injury she has. Her mom wanted to prove to her she can do it. She talks about how her success would be nothing without her family

She stuck to what she believed in
At a tournament she ran into Dana White who is the head of the UFC. She went up to him and told him that she is going to be the first female in UFC. In the book, he talks about how he brushed her off because he believed that would never happen. Shortly after she won several fights, she signed a contract with UFC.

She called out Floyd Mayweather at the ESPY’s.
After she won the ESPY award for Best Fighter, she called out Mayweather saying “I wonder how Floyd feels after being beat by a woman for once.”

Pure freaking gold.

The Truth about True Detective

 By: Molly Fox

True Detective is a crime show that aired on Sunday nights at 9pm HBO. There are currently 2 seasons out. I was slightly obsessed with Season 1.

Season 2…different story.

Season 1 stared Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Matty McC? Count me in.

The first and second season had two different casts with two different crimes/storyline.

I can tell you right now I had no idea what in the hell was going on in Season 2 until the last freaking episode. The cast was crazy strong, with it staring Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins) and Colin Farrell. How could this go wrong?

Oh but it did.

Farrell, Kitsch, and McAdams all played cops. Vaughn played a gangster doing some dirty work with city mayor, who was killed in the first episode becoming the story line of the whole show. Farrell played somewhat of a dirty cop but you had to love to love him. Eventually, McAdams and Farrell spark up a steamy relationship in the last few episodes.

Personally, I think Vaughn needs to stick to comedy.

I honestly could not tell you their names on the show, I refer to them by their real names.

I expected a lot more out of the show considering season 1 nailed it. Do not get me wrong, the show was good and worth watching, but it was so confusing. I would read every article I could find about the show to understand what was happening. Who is screwing who over?! Why did he shoot him?! Is he dead?! He cannot be dead. Rewind that, what did he say?!  Eventually I got it, with the help of a BuzzFeed article.

My mom and I watched it together every night Sunday night and would be sending each other articles by Monday morning. My mom semi gave up on the show half way through the show because she hated the way Farrell mumbled and you couldn’t understand him. He is originally from Ireland and has a brogue, he could be speaking gibberish and I would not care.

I did love the ending though, it was sad, but it did really bring the whole show together. I would not call it a happy ending, but a pleasant surprise would suffice. I will not tell you the ending, you may just have to figure that one out yourself.

An Elite Squad Known As the Special Victims Unit

By: Molly Fox

Everyone has binged watched Law and Order Special Victims Unit. You know you love Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler. Lets be honest, you wish Stabler would arrest you a time or two.

Every show is awfully sad with endless stories of sex crimes in New York City. But for some reason you cannot look away. Its like seeing someone pulled over on the side of the road, you can’t NOT look. Like you can’t not watch SVU.

Olivia Benson is so kick ass.

Her eyeliner is always on point - side note.

I can recite the entire opening segment with the man in the deep voice saying In the Criminal Justice System…

I would do it in a interview if they would let me, they would have to hire me then.

There is something so compelling about show, I do not think it is Ice-T’s lisp, but it is something. There is a strong cast, and nothing like watching the bad guy go to jail or Benson and Stabler get a emotional heated confession out of a perp. (I only know what perp means from the show.)

Some days after watching the show I  think I could skip law school and head straight to the court room. I would sometimes watch and try and guess the ending. Needless to say I won’t quit my day job.

I already picked out the line I would say if I were called to jury duty- “You can’t handle the truth!!” - A line from a “A Few Good Men” said by Jack Nicholson. My dad always says this line constantly and it always makes me chuckle. I may get thrown out but it would TOTALLY be worth it.

I always loved a strong female role in any show or film, the show would not be what it is without Benson or Stabler. I have always been drawn to cop shows. I like when there is a mystery that is crammed into a 30 minute show. Always at the end of the show when I find out who actually did it, I can’t help but shout “I knew it was him the whole time!” (Yeah Right)

I have not yet predicted the correct ending of the show yet, but stay tuned

On Your Mark, Get Set, Contour!

If you are like me you have watched countless YouTube makeup tutorials weekly trying to master the contour. I have seen all sorts of contouring from all different makeup artists from all different brands. It looks a hell of a lot easier than it actually is. I feel pretty confident after ending the YouTube video feeling like I’m ready to take on the contour.
…..I failed miserably.

In world of makeup today, contouring is HUGE. Everyone wonders why Kim Kardashian’s nose looks thinner when she SWEARS she just has a great makeup artist who can do a mean contour. I beg to differ.

I follow a YouTube makeup artist Jaclyn Hill who I adore, she does awesome makeup and is constantly putting up different makeup looks for all different occasions. She is just a good human of society. She is also someone who does a mean contour. I literally almost have every brand of makeup she uses. Sometimes, 90% of my paycheck caters to my makeup obsessions.
Every time I stand in front of the mirror ready to conquer the contour something goes wrong somewhere and I end up have brown stripes throughout my face. How do these people make it look so easy? I have the same contour kit and brush Jaclyn Hill uses, yet my final look is completely different! Cue the violins.

Maybe my hand eye coordination is a lot different. That has to be it.

I truly do believe makeup is a form of artistry. There are so many different things you can do with makeup, and even better, you can always take it off. Makeup can be a form of expression, as we see so many young teens now with raccoon eyes as they put a boat load of eye liner on. I was one of those young teens. I love eye liner to this day and it is still my favorite piece of makeup. My mother and sisters could go on about the fights we have had about my use of eye liner. It was almost a drug and they almost cleared out all the eye liner in the house in which they would watch me go through withdraw. I can quit whenever I want!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, makeup is one of my favorite things to do. I may not be the best at it, but I sure do try hard and that’s what counts right?

How to be a Good Coworker

By: Molly Fox

With being a recent college grad and having an internship for a local government municipality for the past 4 summers through college, I have learned a thing or two on working in an office and how to be a tolerable, good coworker.  It really is not that hard, especially for being young and new to the work place I have picked up some helpful tips.

1.      Do not office gossip
There are probably things that are going to piss you off in an office every day. Whether it is a paper jam in the printer or a paper cut on your thumb in the most sensitive spot, things are going to try and get you down on a daily work day. It is okay to voice some of those moment where you want to throw the copier out the window. When it comes to fellow coworkers try and keep your mouth shut. No one likes a gossiper especially in a professional setting. There are going to be people in your office that you just do not see eye to eye on certain things and someone you just cannot stand. You do not have to be BFF’s with everyone in your office so it is okay to have these feelings. Do not go run your mouth to every other person in the office about the people you can’t stand. It does not look good on you and you should not be spreading around all the people you do not like. Keep it to yourself, or blog about it! Go back to what your teacher said in 2nd grade, if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything. For all you know, your office could be bugged and your boss could be hearing every little gossipy thing out of your mouth. Call your mom, friend, boyfriend, or vent to your dog at home about your feelings towards other coworkers. Do not bring it to the office, try and make your work life as easy as possible for you. Remember to keep a positive attitude every work day, it will make your life easier. Also remember, do not take to social media about work. “My boss frickin SUCKS” is not a status you want to have posted for all your friends to see. It could fall into the wrong hands and you are forever screwed.

2.      Lend a Helping Hand
If you see a person in the next cubicle phone ringing off the hook or a million and half papers to go through, try and help them out a little. Ask them if they need help to run some copies or grab a cup of coffee for them. Yes, you may be busy yourself but when you have a million and half papers to go through and 100 e mails to read you may want someone to come over and ask you if you need anything. Even if they turned down your offer they will notice you lent a helping hand and eventually return the favor.

3.      Keep your desk space clean
Try and keep any personal space of yours clean, organization is everything. No one wants to walk by your desk and see your half eaten granola bar crumbs everywhere. It reflects you. I understand you cannot control the stacks of papers you need to go through that pile up on your desk. Try and keep in as neat as possible. Have a calendar on your desk with important dates and times, it shows you have organization skills.

4.      Do not be on your phone all day.

Of course it’s okay to check the occasional Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snap Chat. Try and keep this at the minimum. I understand there is a lot that goes on in the social media world that you need to be updated on, but try and focus at the task at hand. You never know when your boss is turning the corner to see you LOLing at a funny vine. Trust me, from experience, your boss will not be happy.

I’ve Been Waiting all Summer for Sunday Night

By: Molly Fox

With football season (already) approaching, my favorite time of the year, this is a  piece for the girls who do not want a pumpkin spiced latte, or go to a pumpkin patch to take a great Instagram selfie, or to wear a wool sweater and watch Netflix.

This is for the girls who throw on a football jersey, not the pink one that's a size XXS but an actual team colored appropriate sized one, on the weekend plop in front the TV on a Sunday with an ice cold one while casually reaching for the buffalo chicken dip. This is for the girls who would rather watch an NFL football game than do anything else in the world.

Lots of girls are laughed at or looked-at like they have 7 heads if they even try and spark up a conversation about Football. Most girls know a way to a mans heart is through his stomach, or talking about Football. I’ve seen some pretty heated arguments between full grown men about the actual size of Peyton Manning's forehead. Of course, if you think a boy thinks you know a lot about football, he’ll automatically ask you to marry him.

I rarely look semi cute on a Sunday. I love lounging in sweats and my over sized Eagles sweat shirt while being half disappointed in our Eagles offense on a Sunday.

When I think of Fall I do not think of high boots and cute sweater hats. I think of football and my family. When I hear the ESPN theme tune it automatically puts me in my living room and the smell of my moms meatballs, with that ESPN jingle in the background.

I do, though, love everything about Fall. There is a certain smell in the cool air that has a calming effect, except when I can hear my dad screaming that the TV because some Eagles player missed a tackle or threw a God awful pick 6. That brings me my happiness.

If you have a boyfriend or significant other, you understand that if you go over to his house for the game, he will not acknowledge you or glance in your direction unless it is to pee or fetch him a beer. In some weird and indescribable way, I sort of love that. Do not look at me, pay attention to the game. “How is your fantasy quarterback doing?” “How many points did that play just get you?” These are only acceptable questions to ask your boyfriend/husband on a Sunday, Thursday night, or Monday night.

Being recently single, I would take offense if a boy asked me to go on a date with them on a Sunday. It would only be acceptable if you were actually taking me to the game.

I am not saying I know every little thing about football in any way, shape or form. There are plenty of times where I glance in my dad’s direction with that “what the hell just happened” look. There are countless times my father has to explain why we decided to punt it away rather than go for it on 4th down. My dad has all girls, so I know how frustrating a Sunday can be for him.

Football is so much more than just a sport to me, and I know for a lot of people it is too, especially in Philadelphia. It brings families together all around the nation and fills up those local bars, full of people rooting for the same thing. It is rare in our world today people are cheering and wanting the same thing.
